The Empire State Building is an architectural marvel with a rich history and has made many guest appearances in popular culture, including the film King Kong. Located in Manhattan, the observation decks offer breathtaking skyline views of the Big Apple and are a must-see for every New Yorker!
Whether you want to see world-famous headliners or next-generation up-and-comers, New York’s comedy clubs are guaranteed to have you in stitches. With a variety of options throughout the boroughs, it’s easy to find a laugh with a show that fits your budget.
Rockefeller Center
Rockefeller Center is known far and wide as the place where the famous Christmas tree is lit every year and where the Today Show and Saturday Night Live are taped. But this 22-acre ‘city within a city’ is much more than that; it’s the site of several world-class museums, shops and restaurants, as well as NBC studio tours.
Despite the economic conditions of 1930, John D Rockefeller Jr footed the bill for this massive project, creating America’s first multiuse retail and entertainment complex. The building’s Art Deco architecture and decoration are spectacular.
You can take in the views from the observation decks, but you’ll also want to take a guided tour of Radio City Music Hall, one of the largest theaters in the world. It’s a stunning building, with a gorgeous auditorium and lobby. If you are planning to come for NYE, check out the New Year’s Eve Prohibition History Tour, which includes a six hour open bar and exclusive reserved viewing space of the Times Square ball drop.
Brooklyn Bridge Park
Brooklyn Bridge Park transforms a former post-industrial waterfront into a thriving 85-acre civic landscape, with a variety of activities and programming. It features lawns, walkways, a playground, and a carousel, spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and Statue of Liberty, wetlands and a salt marsh, and connections to regional bikeways.
The park also features a stepped granite prospect made of salvaged materials that offers sunset views and overlooks the harbor. Two lushly planted freshwater wetlands slow and cleanse run-off from the site, while attracting sixty different bird species.
This park is a must-see if you are in the area, especially during the evening! It can get crowded, but there are plenty of quiet spots to find. It is located near the Brooklyn Bridge, but you can also walk down from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to see it. Drinks start at $20, but the view is worth it! It is also a great spot for a romantic night out.
The Museums
Whether you’re in the mood for a night of classical music or want to step into an alternate reality, NYC’s many museums offer something for every taste. The Smithsonian-affiliated Cooper Hewitt Museum of Design, for instance, is the only museum in the world devoted to historical and contemporary design—its past exhibits have ranged from Lilly Pulitzer’s prints to an exploration of the science of color.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, meanwhile, has everything from classical sculpture to modern masterpieces like Georgia O’Keeffe’s flowers and Basquiat’s stacked painting. It’s also home to a renowned collection of Egyptian antiquities, as well as a gallery of medieval and Renaissance paintings.
For a more supernatural experience, sign up for an evening ghost tour of Greenwich Village. Often led by locals who ooze passion for the area, these tours explore the dark secrets of this historic district. They’re also a fun way to spot infamous mafia hideouts and learn about crimes and mysteries that have yet to be solved.
